Membership Information
Come ride with us! The San Diego Bicycle Club has a lot to offer you.
San Diego's Premier Cycling Club
The San Diego Bicycle Club is the oldest bicycle club in San Diego. The club was formed when a group of local cycling enthusiasts
held their first race in the Del Mar area back in 1946. SDBC supports men and women of all age groups including some highly
competitive juniors. Over the years, the club has produced numerous state and national champions and riders of national
and international fame. Members' interests include road racing, track racing at the local velodrome, criteriums, mountain
bike racing or simply high intensity training and club activities. The club provides its members training programs from seasoned
cyclists with racing and coaching experience. SDBC also organizes some of the best races in the West.
Membership Dues
The membership fee is $45/year for individual, and $10 for each additional family member (with the same address). Juniors get
special discounted membership fee for $10 only. You may sign up either
online or mail in
Membership Form, as well as
Release Form.
The Benefits of Membership
Each member of the San Diego Bicycling Club is encouraged to participate in all club activities. These activities vary greatly.
Members can expect challenging training and racing as well as "off the bike" activities. Membership in SDBC satisfies
United States Cycling Federation club affiliation requirements. All members
receive the full benefit of all club activities and equipment discounts. Included in membership dues is a monthly newsletter containing
invaluable information on training sessions, club races and events, regional races and up-to-the minute racing information.
The newsletter also provides members free classified ads.
Professional Training
Training is an important aspect of any good racing club. SDBC has a USCF racing coach
to work with the racing teams and to develop and introduce new riders to racing. The club holds organized training rides
on weekends and on summer evenings. The Saturday training rides are held year around. The training ride is open to all riders.
These group-training rides are designed to prepare members for all types of racing. In addition to organized training,
members may seek out others with similar schedules to complement their training programs.
Competition
SDBC members are encouraged to join the USCF and represent the club in races. The club hosts several
major USCF races each year. In addition, the club holds a series of club races, which allow all members to compete against
each other for club honors presented at the end of the year. SDBC also organizes teams of elite riders and provides, through
corporate sponsorship, equipment, clothing, entry fees, and travel expenses. Junior, senior and masters teams are formed
for both men and women.
Discounts on Equipment
The San Diego Bicycle Club is able to provide its members with incredible discounts
on clothing and bicycle equipment. These discounts can easily pay back the cost of membership several times over. The club
has several major sponsors who provide their products at substantial discounts to members. The club has special arrangements with
the sponsoring bicycle shop for products and services at discount rates.
Monthly Meetings
All SDBC members and visitors are welcome to attend the club's
monthly meeting
which is held on the second Monday of each month at Karl Strauss,
9675 Scranton Road in Sorrento Mesa. The meetings provide information on upcoming races, race reports from the past month, team reports,
and a variety of lectures by individuals with professions associates with cycling.
