Do you shop at Amazon.com? If so, it' easy for you to help SDBC receive donations from Amazon to SDBC. Just use the “Amazon Smile” charitable process in your account. Amazon Smile funnels a small percentage of their eligible purchase revenue to SDBC if you activate Amazon Smile in your account and choose “San Diego Bicycle Club” as the beneficiary nonprofit.
Instead of logging in through "amazon.com" you log-in through “smile.amazon.com.” Very easy to use. It is EXACTLY the same shopping experience. Nothing changes except SDBC receives contributions from Amazon. |

Borrego Springs Ride and Camp |
Cancelled Due to Fire on Route |
We had to cancel the Borrego ride and camp when a fire broke out on the route Friday morning. A few folks drove out to Borrego Springs after the Saturday ride, made use of the campsite and rode on Sunday.
Here is their report provided by Paul Stuverud:
Ten of us, for some reason all from the "D1" group, rode the Borrego Loop (Montezuma Pass to S2 to 78 to Yaqui Pass to Borrego) on Sunday. It turned out well.
Most of us spent Saturday night at Palm Canyon in the Group 4 & 5 campsites. We had dinner at Carlees and Los Jilbertos. We had a campfire afterwards.
We started and finished the ride mostly together, starting at 9am. It took us approx. 6 hours. There was a lot of wind - especially near Ranchita and dropping down into Borrego at the end. No mishaps except for a few flats.
Afterwards, we all got together for a late lunch at the Red Ocotillo before heading home.
Hopefully, conditions will be better next year, and we'll be able to enjoy your pineapple upside down cake again!

We Need You ~ Take a Pull! |
|
Membership, Clothing, and Special Events Directors Needed
SDBC is a 100% volunteer-run non-profit corporation. You, me, and all our members are what makes our Club work. From our officers and directors to our Saturday ride leaders, no one gets paid. The work is made easier if everyone takes a pull.
Our annual meeting is coming up on Monday, December 9, 2019. We will be electing officers and directors at that meeting. Every position is open since terms are for one year, and all current terms expire in December. In accordance with Club by-laws, the current Board of Directors will be creating a slate of nominees at its Monday, November 11th meeting. Nominations will also be accepted from the floor at the annual meeting in December. Members who are at least 18 years old and current with their dues may vote, and run for any position.
We know of these positions which need to be filled:
- Membership Director (Marilyn Detloff is retiring)
- Clothing Director (currently open - Lin Durand is interested)
- Special Events Director (no one elected in 2019)
These are critical positions that must be filled.
If you are interested in these or any other position, please contact me, or Vice President Renee Robinson, or any board member. A list can be found on the Club’s website at: https://www.sdbc.org/bod.
Thanks!

Mckenzie is now racing for the Air Force Academy. The SDBC junior mountain bike ride will be open to all riders, but to participate each rider will have to fill out a release form.

The High School Mountain Bike Club invites riders from all other High Schools in the area. The ride leaves from the parking area at the intersection of 56 and Carmel Valley Road. All ability levels are welcome. But all riders must fill out a release before participating (minors require parent signature). Riders younger than 13 should have a parent come along for the ride. Depending on who shows up, there will be an A and B ride.
The A ride is fast and will may not wait for dropped riders It is for older more experienced kids. There will be a fixed route, but no support for the A riders, a buddy system is highly encouraged.
Coach Derek will lead the B ride. It is no-drop, so there may be more waiting. The focus of the B ride will be mountain biking technique and fun.
For more information, please contact Coach Derek Steiner at Dereksteiner@outlook.com.
