Gordy Shields Memorial Ride

Honoring a San Diego cycling legend!

When: May 4, 2025, rolls at 0830
Where: Pepper Park, National City
Distance: 35 miles
Route: Strava • Ride With GPS

Join us as we honor and celebrate the life of a true cycling advocate who dedicated countless hours to improving our cycling community. His efforts included significant contributions to the Bayshore Bikeway and the resurfacing of the Fiesta Island Perimeter Road, among many other initiatives.

We’ll gather at Pepper Park, located at 3299 Tidelands Avenue near the Gordy Shields Bridge in National City. This is a free, fun, conversational-paced 35-mile out-and-back ride along the Bayshore Bikeway to Coronado. Feel free to turn around at any point if you prefer a shorter distance.

A brief advocacy talk will take place at 0820, and we’ll roll out at 0830 AM. For those interested in taking the ferry across the bay, please bring $7 for the fare. While we’ll assist with any issues that arise, we ask that you arrive with a mechanically sound bicycle and your own tools to handle any potential repairs.
