Men's Cat 1/2 Team
The SDBC Men's Race Team is one of Southern California's premier cycling teams, dedicated to developing young talent and advancing riders to elite levels. With strong ties to local colleges like UCSD and SDSU, the team nurtures emerging riders, ensuring a steady pipeline of talent progressing through the ranks. From beginners to nationally ranked athletes, the team boasts a unique structure that supports growth and sustainability.
Founded in 2007 as a development team for Cat 4 and 5 riders, the team expanded to include Cat 3 in 2009 and launched a Cat 1/2 squad in 2014. Today, the team comprises around 50 members across four squads and five categories. Our competitive Cat 1/2 team, dynamic Cat 3 squad, and enthusiastic Cat 4/5 feeder team set us apart as a model for long-term success in the region.
In 2019 alone, our racers competed in over 200 events—crits, road races, stage races, and time trials—earning 12 wins, 16 podiums, and 36 top-10 finishes. Notable achievements include a TTT win in the elite category, a 6th-place finish at the Elite National Road Race, and victories at prestigious events like the Manhattan Beach GP, San Dimas Stage Race, Valley of the Sun Stage Race, Dana Point GP, and Tucson Classic.
In 2021, we’re building on this momentum to overcome challenges, grow the team, and continue promoting the sport.
